The Hachiman Shrine Annual Festival, which has been held since ancient times, takes place in mid-September each year. The procession through Yokohama's streets, in which Mikoshi portable shrines play a central role, includes 13 Kagura sacred music groups, and a parade of 100 people dressed in Kamishimo (traditional ceremonial costume) or the white clothing worn when carrying sacred objects, which is dedicated to the gods. On the Day of Return, there are performances of Kagura sacred music on the streets of the Omachi shopping district, and neighborhood lion dance and Kagura performances can be viewed from up close.
