Takaoka Mikurumayama Festival ※2020 cancellation
Takaoka Mickle Mayama Matsuri
Toyama | Takaoka-shi
Takaoka Mikurumayama was a court carriage which Toyotomi Hideyoshi used to welcome Go-Youzei Emperor and Emperor Ogimachi in Jurakudai in 1588. When Maeda Toshiie received this land and Maeda Toshinaga built Takaoka Castle in 1609, this vehicle was given to the town people of the domain. This is said to be the beginning of the festival. This Mikurumayama is a special vehicle with a Trident monted on it. Being supported in spirit and financially by the Takaoka people, it is a solemn and gorgeous float with intricate decoration done on the wheels, the railing and the Nageshi all decorated by excellent crafstmenship of metal work, urushi lacquer work and with dyed and woven of textiles crafstmen. It is one of the most ornate yamas in Japan. - -
