Ansei Toashi Samurai Marathon
Gunma | Annaka-shi
In 1885, Itakura Katsuaki, the lord of a feudal domain, made his samurai men participate in the marathon in order to encourage both literary and military arts. This is said to be the origin of the event. Participants wear their own costume and run in May every year. There are two course, the Toge (mountain pass) course: An’naka Castle Remains to Kumano Shrine, 28.97 kilometers, Barrier Station, Sakamoto-juku Course: An’naka Castle Remains to Kutsurogi no Sato, 20.15 kilometers. Application is started in the beginning of February and is popular marathon every year so as to reach capacity in a few days. - - ※Concerning coronavirus infectious disease, it is called off in 2020.
