This was established as a place for Buddhist ascetic practices in 658 by En no Gyoja. It is known as the foundation dojo of the Daisho Kankiten sacred site and is one of the first sites of the appearance of Daisho Kankiten. In addition, the temple grounds are covered with different kinds of maples and the place is fast becoming a famous spot for viewing colored leaves for those who appreciate it.
